We were already smaller and poorer before we even voted to leave the EU.

The days of the British Empire are well gone and our power and influence went with it.

How much power and influence do you think Europe has with nations such as China, Russia and North Korea?

Stop fooling yourselves, we are a minor power in the world today whether in or out of Europe and even the USA doesn't have the clout they once had.

The world order is changing and that is nothing to do with Brexit.

i know

Remainers must come to terms with the fact that we are a small country now, and not a part of an economic and political empire that seeks to always expand.

Classic!!!

Yes we are a small country now - we are insignificant in terms of the world, and as a result of us committing suicide (aka vote Leave) in June 2016 we have so, so little influence on the world...

Why?

Because we chose this direction - applause to all those that brought us to this state. </sarcasm>

Was this what was promised - "vote leave and have no control over what the rest of the world does to us"?

I don't remember that on the side of the bus.

It just goes to show that we were lied to by the establishment and many of you believed it and went along with it.

Queue up behind the blonde buffoon to get some poverty aid  - oh I forgot, he's off in his nice little mansion paid for by us, the taxpayer, living it up as a sexist, racist, liar, cheat and bully.

You can't put a price on freedom so of course it should be Brexit at any cost. Our country didn't fight and win two World wars to be ruled from Brussels. Given the choice between living on bread and water and being in the eu then I'd be happy to live on bread and water.

Well, get used to it - oh, I forgot, the water is owned by the Spanish, and the queues at the docks won't let the flour in...

You and your kind have shafted the country royally and your children will never forgive you...

Happy now?

From July 2020.

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/042915/how-uk-makes-money.asp#:~:text=With a 2019 gross domestic,largest economy in the world.

6th best economy in the world.  Not bad for a 'insignificant, poor, little island'.

2019 figures... and heading south.

"The services sector—which comprises many industries including finance, retail, and entertainment—accounts for more than three-quarters of the U.K.'s GDP"

And which sector is bailing out of the UK????

Yes, you guessed it, the services sector - so your little leave vote in 2016 means that up to 75% of our GDP will be heading to the EU (which we were once part of and benefited massively from).

But hey, you armchair economists knew better...

Enjoy your life, and don;'t be surprised when your children hate you for what you have done to their futures.,

So go on then.  I've offered recently hard, factual statistics, (you may have missed the but in the article that states' updated July 2020'), what are you bringing to the factual argument here other than, baseless, hollow

comments that mean you really have nothing.

Come on, provide factual evidence as to where the UK economy sits in the world?

Come on, provide factual evidence as to where the UK economy sits in the world?

Where we sit is always a lagging indicator, and while it is not hard evidence, you can see the trend to a reduction in the value of the service sector for and in the UK.

Employment in the service sector falls dramatically.

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/cbi-employment-economy-services-sector-083114759.html

"around 94% of senior managers at London's largest finance firms - including banks, asset managers, insurance firms and fintech businesses  - said they still had work to do “to remain operational” in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to a poll conducted by consulting firm EY in July"

https://www.fnlondon.com/articles/finances-ticking-time-bomb-firms-not-ready-for-no-deal-brexit-as-time-runs-out-on-trade-talks-20200824

We have seen several banks announce movement to Germany in the last couple of weeks, we have seen the share value of HSBC tank in the last few days meaning lay offs and reduction in tax revenue for the government.

"Banking giant JP Morgan is shifting £183billion out of the UK to Frankfurt as it braces for a No Deal Brexit."

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-8765335/JP-Morgan-183bn-UK-Frankfurt-No-Deal-Brexit-blow.html

It doesn't take a crystal ball to see that we are on a downward trajectory.

So my "baseless, hollow comments" are actaully based on fact and realism as opposed to the rose tinted view of the world that the Believers have of where they have left us and their children...

Maybe Bob Geldof will get us some aid soon, because god knows we will need it...

Completely out of touch with why most people voted to Leave the EU.

It was nothing to do with empire, colonialism or imperialism.

Everything to do with Brexit voters and Brexit voting areas being 'left behind' (not permitted to share in the economic benefits of a massive capitalist trading bloc) whilst within the EU.

If being a member of the European Economic trading bloc hadn't advanced their interests in 43 years of membership, it was never going to advance their interests.

So why stay? Only one reason to vote Remain - keep the rich people rich and hope some of those riches trickle down to the poor. No chance. Better Off Out.

Obviously that's why Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the UKs richest person  voted to remain: keep the rich rich, and maybe some of those riches will trickle down to the poor.

Except he didn't vote to remain. He campaigned in the referendum to leave. And do you know what? Now that he's got his precious Brexit, the great patriot is upping and leaving for Monaco.  Just months after receiving a knighthood from the Queen.

JP Morgan funded the Remain campaign 'Britain Stronger in Europe' stating in 2016 that it would quit the UK if we left the EU. A merchant bank that was partly responsible for the 2008 financial crash had attempted to subvert the democratic decision to leave the EU.

So a vampire squid money laundering and financial scandal hit bank slithers off to do its business in the EU. How appropriate.

Brexit is rightfully refocusing the UK economy away from such toxic capitalism.

Might be the name for a decent goth band.

So evidence as to how Brexit is "refocusing the UK economy" as all the links so far seem to show it's being "refocused" to Europe. "Refocusing the economy" sounds awfully like "shrinking the economy".

Have you noticed we have toxic capitalists (ie right wing Tories) in control?

He’s got a bit of blind spot on that to be fair. He’ll ignore it, not on purpose it just won’t register what you’ve written.

Yeah but Jezza won the argument so really the Corbynistas are in control and the Johnson government is just an illusion 😎

Really? I could have sworn we were desperately scrambling to do free trade deals that cut environmental, health and animal welfare protections whilst at the same time demanding British lorry drivers get a permit to enter Kent.

Whatever, I'm sure your mates Boris and Dom will be refocusing the UK economy to the benefit of everyone not just their pals and cronies.
