I take it people who assume the black covered passport has magical qualities are the same ones who think if they point,  talk slowly and loudly in English then they'll be understoood everywhere.

These magical qualities are fading fast (the British passport ranked 6th last year, already on a downward curve).

Considering the ranking criteria, it is extremely doubtful that the colour swap will make any difference.

So the UK will leave the EASA ( European Aviation Safety Agency ).

The sectors trade body ADS has estimated that it would take 10 years and cost up to £40m annually to create a UK safety authority with all the expertise of EASA, against a current contribution to the European agency of £1m to £4m a year.

Take back control, but in a manner which is unsafe...

Where is that lying, cheating, sexist, racist PM of our when we need someone to blame/visit the floods/ catch coronoavirus?

Oh yes, on a £15K holiday (paid for by someone else - no corruption there!) or shacked up with his soon to be wife (getting married so there won't be any more ******** in Downing Street!)

NOTE: a ******* is defined as a person born of unmarried parents - not a rude term

Why spend £40m when you can pay £400m instead, for no benefit...

...Brexit in a nutshell.

I see the UK's Galileo replacement has hit the ground running:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/03/02/brexit_satellite_delay/

"Rockets are fuelled by more than wishful thinking and maybe some of those experts might be useful after all."

All so predictable, sadly.

Turns out, that £350m was a bargain... who'd have thought it! :?

And even with Brexit, Nissan continue to invest in their UK plant.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-tyne-51771624

I suggest you read the analysis by Theo Leggett that concludes;

"just because its immediate future seems secure, there's no guarantee the plant will be awarded more business when its current contracts, including the new Qashqai, come to an end."

Which it appears may be rather abrupt in the case of an "Australian deal".

(£50m is pretty much petty cash to Nissan - it's sales amount to over $100 billion pa).

It's not £50 million in total is it?  The £50 million is part of a £400 million investment.

As for "just because its immediate future seems secure, there's no guarantee the plant will be awarded more business when its current contracts, including the new Qashqai, come to an end.". I bet Theo Leggett wouldn't bet his house on that statement if push came to shove.

A £400 million investment, no matter how many billions Nissan makes, is not a drop in the ocean for Chief Execs to make if they want to hold on to their business reputations.

Have they spent the remaining £350 million yet?

From the same BBC article;

"Nissan's European chairman Gianluca de Ficchy has repeatedly warned that the company's entire European business could be at risk if the UK and the EU don't do a deal that safeguards frictionless, tariff-free trade across the channel. He repeated the point just last week.

His argument is that because around 70% of the cars built in Sunderland are exported to the EU, the introduction of 10% tariffs (under WTO trading terms) could undermine the company's business model in the region."

Surprised nobody has posted about the recent interesting story about air safety after brexit

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51783580

I particularly found the following interesting

He said the agency's powers would revert to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) "and the expertise will need to come home to do that, but we'll do it in a gradual way".

How gradual? before december gradual or after december gradual?

or this bit

The trade body ADS - which represents more than 1,100 UK businesses in the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors - told the BBC the decision could potentially mean products and designs would need to be certified more than once.

what about this bit?

ADS has estimated that it would take 10 years and cost up to £40m annually to create a UK safety authority with all the expertise of EASA, against a current contribution to the European agency of £1m to £4m a year.

I wouldn't take that £400m to the bank just yet.

Particularly not when the UK negotiators just refused outright to seek a waiver on the EU's Safety & Security Border declarations (meaning still more critical paperwork to load onto freight co's & drivers), besides oodles more logistics-impairing aspects of the EU-UK FTA's landing zone.

Doesn't look like those UK negotiators have been briefed on Nissan's (and others') logistical requirements.

It's not that hard to dismantle and ship a manufacturing business piece by piece, whether to the Continent or elsewhere. It just takes the right combination of cost and logistical factors to decide it, then time. Just ask Magnetic MRO.

To the surprise of nobody except the dimmest of Brexiteers the £350 million a week "saving" from Brexit exists on the same planet as unicorns.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/budget-rushi-sunak-treasury-figures-brexit-dividend-a9395476.html

"The Treasury has confirmed that it will not be getting an extra £350 million a week after Britain stops paying into the EU budget, despite false claims by Brexiteers during the referendum.

Britain is in fact expected to be overall poorer by £1,200 per person because of Brexit's economic drag, according to the government's spending watchdog."

What is that I hear?

All the Brexiteers saying "we woz duped" or the stony silence of their realisation that brexit is going to make us worse off, wayyyy worse off?
