Resident   1,127 #1 Posted February 10, 2020 So SCC have started placing concrete blocks around the city centre (there are some opposite train station) with  "temporary measure to combat selfish parking"  Great that they're attempting to deal with the problem but they're creating the same issue with the blocks, causing an obstruction to pedestrians.  Personally, in my opinion, they should just wait for the problem parkers and the remove the car via tow-truck. If they want their car back, £200 + daily storage fees.
 Share this content via...
Martin C   81 #2 Posted February 11, 2020 Pedestrians have had to dodge round this sort of thing for some time - surely they've been frequently used (e.g. at the bottom of Fargate during the Christmas Market) in an attempt to mitigate any potential terrorist attacks by the usual or (in attempt to avoid censure by the "thought police") unusual suspects. Fully support your suggestion of towing parking offenders' vehicles away though (ideally at a starting fine of £1,000 not £200). I reckon after a well publicised first crushing the problem would cease to exist.
 Share this content via...

Annie Bynnol   596 #5 Posted February 11, 2020 Anywhere there are crowds of people you will see more and more street furniture whose purpose is to prevent terrorist attackers from driving into large groups. At some locations they temporarily use concrete blocks.  This is happening all over the UK and most of Europe.  There always has been street furniture designed to prevent selfish parking but these are usually much more flimsy  This has already been covered when the bollards were placed around the station. dutch   68 #7 Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Similar action has cleared old castle area from all sorts of jungle parking. Simple efficient cheap.  Future cars need GPS tracking so parking fine automatically comes from account when parked at wrong place. JMinSheff   10 #8 Posted February 11, 2020 Problem is it's not actually illegal to park on a pavement like this, so there's not a lot of enforcement action the Council can legally take.
 Share this content via...

These are nothing to do with terrorism and all about poor parking. It’s a new SCC ‘initiative’ and they’re on Sheaf Street.
 Share this content via...
WalkleyIan   10 #10 Posted February 11, 2020 Its only a temporary measure until the new pavement parking orders come through. There has been one particular offender who blocks the cycle route on Sheaf St everyday its been a long time since the tro was first raised http://democracy.sheffield.gov.uk/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=19383&Opt=0
 Share this content via...
