Anti-Strike Student Offered Counselling.

Recommended Posts

A Sheffield University student disagreed with the Uni's lectures' industrial action & requested they get back to lectures,

Subsequently the he was contacted, (after conserns by the lecturers' union, who were 'concerned' by his lack of support for their striking?), by Student Welfare.

The message is clearly, you don't support us, then you must have a mental health problem?

Reading between the lines it sounds like they felt threatened by him being " very agitated, anxious and angry " - i.e. they were worried he might become violent.

Do think students should get some compensation for the lessons and lectures they have missed.

Maybe they can?

After all, aren't the students paying for a 'product' service these days?

Poor ickle snowflake.

Judging by his Twitter feed it's no wonder people were concerned for his mental health.

Sheffield University & Sheffield Hallam University staff in conjunction with other universities are undertaking industrial action.

https://www.thestar.co.uk/education/university-strikes-sheffield-why-universities-are-striking-which-ones-are-taking-part-and-all-ucu-strike-dates-1748210

Although the Students' Union are backing the action, there are already a number of students in Sheffield, (& presumably in other parts of the country?), starting action to request refunds of their course fees for the times they are not able to attend lectures due to industrial action.  Seems a reasonable request?

Wonder if they'll get any money back or just offered counselling for not towing the line?

It's  not just Sheffield, there's  a petition of over 30,000 signed by students hoping to get a refund. Good luck to them, lectures cost money and the students pay for them with their fees.

Well there was one American student at Sheffield University interviewed last night.  As she was an overseas student she actually pays double the fees of a UK student, close to £20,000 per year.

I'd certainly be chasing up a part refund for the strike days.

I suspect there was a bit more to it than appears. Perhaps there was genuine concern for him on behalf of the Uni, but Daily Mail type journalism can always spin things
