Baron99   779 #1 Posted February 3, 2020 (edited) A Sheffield University student disagreed with the Uni's lectures' industrial action & requested they get back to lectures,  Subsequently the he was contacted, (after conserns by the lecturers' union, who were 'concerned' by his lack of support for their striking?), by Student Welfare.  https://thetab.com/uk/sheffield/2020/02/01/sheffield-university-ucu-lecturer-strike-student-mental-health-41901  The message is clearly, you don't support us, then you must have a mental health problem? Edited February 3, 2020 by Baron99
 Share this content via...

Maybe they can?  https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/student-money/university-lecturers-strike-rights-can-claim-refund/  After all, aren't the students paying for a 'product' service these days?  Edited February 5, 2020 by Baron99
 Share this content via...
taxman   12 #5 Posted February 5, 2020 Poor ickle snowflake.  Judging by his Twitter feed it's no wonder people were concerned for his mental health.
 Share this content via...
Baron99   779 #6 Posted February 20, 2020 Sheffield University & Sheffield Hallam University staff in conjunction with other universities are undertaking industrial action.  https://www.thestar.co.uk/education/university-strikes-sheffield-why-universities-are-striking-which-ones-are-taking-part-and-all-ucu-strike-dates-1748210  Although the Students' Union are backing the action, there are already a number of students in Sheffield, (& presumably in other parts of the country?), starting action to request refunds of their course fees for the times they are not able to attend lectures due to industrial action. Seems a reasonable request?  Wonder if they'll get any money back or just offered counselling for not towing the line?
 Share this content via...

jaffa1   10 #8 Posted February 20, 2020 It's not just Sheffield, there's a petition of over 30,000 signed by students hoping to get a refund. Good luck to them, lectures cost money and the students pay for them with their fees.
 Share this content via...
Baron99   779 #9 Posted February 21, 2020 Well there was one American student at Sheffield University interviewed last night. As she was an overseas student she actually pays double the fees of a UK student, close to £20,000 per year.  I'd certainly be chasing up a part refund for the strike days.
 Share this content via...

Perhaps there was genuine concern for him on behalf of the Uni, but Daily Mail type journalism can always spin things
 Share this content via...
Baron99   779 #11 Posted March 5, 2020 Apparently, claims that striking staff are intimidating students? https://thetab.com/uk/sheffield/2020/03/04/students-protest-striking-lecturers-sheffield-university-42530
 Share this content via...
