My Dab Radio Needs Repairing. Where can I take it?

Recommended Posts

If you want to donate it to me, I'll try to repair it.

I have a small Grundig unit and the display faded prematurely (just see it in the dark), luckily I had 5 stations pre-tuned.

There seems to be a pattern  here in respect of failing display panels.

Until the manufacturers get to grips with the display  issues, I think I will try to find a decent fm transistor radio. Something like a Sony.

The old tuning knob and dial rarely failed. The vacuum fluorescent type commonly used on VCRs did fade after a long while, as do some of the LCD ones as on my Grundig. The red LED types seem to last longer. Not surprising though with VCRs as the clock would be on permanent display.

I've had 2 Pure Evokes over the years, the latest being the Marshall -1S version.

Both have had similar experiences, with the display 'suddenly' disappearing from view, seemingly for no reason.

In both cases, the solution was to remove the power lead for 30 seconds-or-so, reconnect and switch on - up to press, it's always worked.

I've a feeling that this advice was actually listed on the Pure website at one time.

@alchresearch

If possible I would like to learn from your experience. What brand were the two  radios whereby the display screens failed?

Grundig

Yes, you are welcome to have it, no problem.

What's the issue, you said you knocked it over in the original post, but what's not working now?

If it's just the LCD, it could just be the zebra strip that's slipped, preventing the display from working....
