Parking Meters Smashed in Castleton

I was on the road out of Castleton at the weekend, the one that takes you in the direction of Winnats pass, its is marked as a parking area on the road, with suitably placed meters every few yards, there must be about 25 of them and every one has been smashed, I guess someone doesn't agree with paying at the meters, anyone else seen this?

The meters have been like that now for a few months

It's a quiet road especially at night

Plenty of opportunity for the low life to operate !

No doubt being considered whether or not to replace them

It's been like that for at least a year.  But since meters are working nearer the village I wouldn't risk parking without a ticket.

I think they were all done over about five years ago.

i wonder if they were robbed, or just smashed so people didnt  have to pay for a ticket

Had to smile, Paul Newman did visit Castleton,  picture outside the Peak Cavern showing his visit there.  Did a fan feel compelled to re enact the scene?  Paul Newman apparently visited Matlock quite frequently. Don't know how true this is
