Blades V Arsenal

Recommended Posts

Arsenal away is one of those games at the start of the season that you would have just written off as a defeat.Take it on the chin and move on to the next game.

But not now...The league table tells you we've got a chance in this one. I'll take a point; dare we dream for more?

Yes,  Aubameyang out, following a red card in last game.

I'll take a point now but you never know with the indifferent season Arsenal are having.... it might be 3?

Saw the pre match interview with Wilder and he pretty much says the team know exactly what he expects of them and what he will get, seems rather confident. It isn't impossible for United to win, personally I think they should go at them straight away, our first half performances have been a bit iffy the past few games.

Another tentative start really, but one that is probably expected against a lively Arsenal team with obvious attacking pace and quality.

For large parts of this first half, it was more a passing game in which both teams attempted to put the ball around and seek potential weak spots. However; as they half as gone on, Pepe and Martinelli have pushed on a lot more for Arsenal as they have attempted to overload us.

The majority of our play has been in and around the centre of the pitch. It became very congested in the middle third with solid banks of lines on both parts. The last 15 minutes of that first half, Arsenal upped their attacking game...at times they attacked with 4 players at a time and 4 players joining up behind them. Very fluid and attacking minded.......that said, they did so without overly bothering us. It took a deflected chip ball across this 6 yard box, which finally caught us out for a simple tap in.

We don't necessarily deserve to be losing, but at the same time arsenal have put one of very few chances in the game away.

Arsenal have come out in the second half with a but more purpose and if we are to get anything out of this game, it is important that we ride this little but of confidence out and get ourselves composed. We need to get out trademark shape back and we need to try and match Arsenal's passing game. It is quite easy when under the cosh, to look for the long outlet balls down the flanks. This wont prove fruitful for us, if we dont have the numbers going forward in support.

Arsenal arent infallible at all, we just perhaps need a little bit more from midfield. I'd see how this first 15 of the second half pans out personally and then I might look at introducing players.....the most obvious switches being Lundstram for Besic and Mcburnie for Robinson at the minute, just to give us back a bit more doggedness and movement in the final third.

Robinson also coming on now for Mcburnie I think, but yes we definitely need Besic in there. We have managed to get a slight attacking grip again and confidence. We need those legs in the middle of the park. Lundstram has given away possession at least twice in recent minutes.

Scrap that, it's Lundstram for Robinson....so actually quite attacking minded. I've said it 3 times now, this game is crying out for the physicality and passing ability of Besic. Mcburnie is of little influence so far, so the opportunity is still there......we shall see if proven wrong

What a goal! Get in fleck!

Ball put in the box, flicked on to fleck. He was about 10 yards out and angled across the keeper, he hits the ball on the half volley. It bounces first, but the power catches out the keeper and it nestles in the top corner of the net.

A reward of better pressure and improved attacking play.

Overall......a deserved point.

As said above.. Arsenal tried to hit us in numbers, but we dealt with it quite well to be fair.

In those latter stages of the game, we upped the tempo and had the better legs of the two teams. It was our turn to throw some numbers up the pitch and those fresh legs worked a treat, also bringing a bit of extra energy out of the wing backs.

We created several chance in that late spell and could have easily walked away with three points, had it not been for some dogged defending from Arsenal defenders.

Well deserved point! On to the next giant!.....
