Mortimer Road Horror Smash

Recommended Posts

Just saw this posted by SY police from April last year, lesson for anyone who enjoys a country lane blast even in good conditions rallying around at excess speed will result in a crash sooner or later.

Does anyone know if the victim, is he/she on the way to recovery?

Fancy heading into that bend at 60mph, the idiot following was just as bad.

Don't have the full details but it went to court in Thursday, the driver got 16 months imprisonment.

The biker got a broken back, sternum and wrist in the crash.

The comments from the police aren't that helpful either;

"South Yorkshire Police's PC Phil Carson said the footage of the crash in April 2019 was released to remind bikers about wearing the correct safety gear."

Instead of something like ;

"Car drivers - don't behave like <removed> and take blind corners at 70mph on the wrong side of the road".

Why drag it completely out of context? What he actually said was professional and correct. The guy in the car was  in the wrong and obviously an idiot, no doubt; the police know this. You are going to get idiots on the road and the “correct safety gear” saved the bikers life regardless of the situation.

Here is what he actually said for those who are un-biased and not not into sensationalism.

"You might be travelling in a safe manner, but that doesn't mean everyone else is.

"Please make sure that you're wearing the right kit, it might be expensive but without it, your life could be at risk."

In my opinion, probably as most others, is the guy should have had a heftier sentence and a longer ban (that starts after he is released). You can be the safest rider in the world, but you are ALWAYS going to be on the road with people who aren’t.

In no way am I defending the driver here, but throwing away the key for an error of judgement like that? Yes he was wrong, yes he’s paid a penalty - maybe 16 months wasn’t long enough but still........
