St Petre   85 #1 Posted January 10, 2020 Any one recall where Granville Lane (if it existed) was, perhaps in the South Street area till mid/late 1950s ?
 Share this content via...
dp59 Â Â 12 #2 Posted January 10, 2020 My Sheffield Street Guide gives the location of Granville Lane as, 34, Bungay Street, Park to Shrewsbury Road. This could be pre 1939. Hope this is of some help.
 Share this content via...

hillsbro   29 #4 Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) Here is a link to an early-1900s map showing the location of Granville Lane behind the railway station. https://i.postimg.cc/DyTc14Jg/001a.jpg  The "picturesheffield" website has some 1940s/50s photos of Granville Lane - here is a link to one of them. http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s02658&pos=7&action=zoom&id=6299    Edited January 11, 2020 by hillsbro
 Share this content via...

beechnut   10 #6 Posted January 12, 2020 I also noticed that it is still shown on Google maps (though higher up the hill than its 1950s location) but I couldn't find any street-level views of Granville Lane. Also. the Royal Mail website doesn't list any postcodes for Granville Lane. Maybe a mistake by Google?
 Share this content via...
nikki-red   307 #7 Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) It looks like its still technically there but its now just serves as the tram route at the back of the Station. Would explain why theres no streetview on Google maps. Edited January 12, 2020 by nikki-red
 Share this content via...

The tram route is actually along what was Granville Street. The answer seems to be that what appear on Google maps as Bungay Street and Granville Lane are actually paths in "South Street Open Space".
