Which 4gb Stick Of Ram

I have a Asus UX 31OUA Zenbook  fitted with 4GB RAM.

To speed it up a bit I intend to buy a extra 4GB RAM from the website Crucial.

I have used their special tool to inform me of the correct ram but their web page

lists two different 4GB sticks at the same price.

Could someone tell me which one to choose or will either one be OK

It doesn't matter which as a standard user, the only difference is the x8 or x16, which is a technical spec that's mostly a concern to the manufacturers, as it denotes the configuration of the module..

VERY simplified, if you buy a 4GB stick, that has 8 individual chips on it, it's likely that each chip is 512mb (512x8=4096) the 8 together are the total ram for that module... 

the x8 or x16 is just to do with this and the way the module is configured... it can make a small difference if overclocking the RAM but it's not something you would be likely to be doing.

if the crucial checker says they are both compatible with your system, then either will work perfect for you and it will not matter which you buy

You will need to check if you have any empty slots, in your Zenbook, check its original specs out, or its original documentation.

 

the ram could be built into the mobo, or have separate single or two slots.

According to the official spec sheet the Notebook has a welded module to the motherboard with 1 SO-DIMM slot for expansion up to 16 Gb:

It would just need to ensure that the additional module is of the same clock speed.

 

On a separate note I tried the Crucial Memory application on a different rig once (MSI-2400 mobo) which only can take 2Gb RAM - Crucial reported it could be expanded to 8 Gb - so I don't trust it.

Ram upgrades in Laptops is quite rare, especially smaller form factor ones.

 

You might be able to upgrade the hard drive though, a new SSD will be a big improvement if the your laptop is fitted with an old HDD.

How easy is it to change to ssd?  my laptop may benefit from a changeover.

Sometimes it can be very easy, others it can be more complicated.

Its a lenovo G505 laptop - just runs a bit slow sometimes even after doing all the other fixes to it.
