Philander, in his last test at his home ground will go through that batting line up like a hot knife through butter.  As as an aside,  I wouldn’t be surprised ifthis is going to be Anderson’s last tour. Slogging his guts out only for the batters to do something daft. SL would be worse still. Didn't Bairstow do the same thing a while ago? Seems we never learn.
 Share this content via...

staninoodle   175 #8 Posted January 26, 2020 SA are a side in transition, many of the side have limited test experience, apart from the 1st test thats been quite apparent. England have done well considering the sickness bug they arrived with thats affected almost the entire side, sad to see Burns leave so early but Crawley has got better with each game and its been good experience for the kid. Il be sad to see big Vern leave the test scene, hes been teriffic for SA and hes one of my fav bowlers, has that ability to put doubt in every single ball the batsman faces, not fast, but dead accurate and thats a HUGE skill to plant every ball on a pitch at your off stump @ 85 mph. Ollie Pope looks a find, promising start to a fledgling test career and Dom Best had a blast up at newlands again showed much promise and got in tons of valuable overs. Its been a good tour, against an all be it transitional SA side on their own pitches, weve done well and sowed a few seeds,Anderson and Broad wont be easy to replace, that needs urgent attention
 Share this content via...
tinfoilhat   11 #9 Posted January 26, 2020 In theory broad and Anderson shouldn't be hard to replace - woakes (when root let's him bowl) archer and wood are all fine bowlers - and we have others ready to go. They aren't all consistent, that will come with time but what they aren't- and up to the last 6 months broad and Anderson certainly are - is durable. You cant take wickets from a treatment table. staninoodle   175 #10 Posted January 26, 2020 Weve some promise in the bowling but Anderson can swing it both ways AND he can be deadly accurate, something that the up comming crop dont do,not many can move a ball both ways,Broad tends to bowl a touch shorter but gets a bit of bounce from his height,he can generate deceptively late swing, and like you say, theyve tended to stay fit. Archer is still comming to terms with test cricket, but hes got the attributes, its just finding the consistency & control
 Share this content via...
