Sheffield Christmas Markets. So Disappointing!

I'm sure many of you have visited the Christmas Market in Sheffield. I was totally underwhelmed by how poor they are in comparison to other towns and cities in the UK. I visited Manchester on Saturday...unbelievable...amazing. Lots of stalls, bars, people and an amazing atmosphere. Every corner there were more stalls...lots going on. Sheffield on the other hand was small....two bars...about 40 stalls. Absolutely shameful and so short sighted by our Councillors as per usual. Most people go out of Sheffield to other towns and cities because our pathetic market is not fit for purpose. The Moor could have been used...the area around the Theatres...just no vision...wake up Sheffield Council you are killing the City!

All Christmas markets are the same overpriced everything, so thankfully Sheffield  hasn't so many.

The Manchester markets had loads of choice of everything. Yes the beer at the bars is expensive but the councils charge extortionate rates to the vendors. However the different food on offer and lots of Artisan stalls there gave you choice. In one of the markets there were 5 bars...not like the two in Sheffield that were barely full. No atmosphere in Sheffield at all. What was even worse was that on Fargate the scaffolding and hoardings are still up 5 years on on Chapel walk which gives limited access on Fargate.

We went to the one at Leeds a few weeks ago, and if you think ours is bad then theirs is an embarrassment....it was absolutely tiny.

By comparison the one in Sheffield is huge!

It’s just a market that’s had the suffix “Christmas” added, what’s Christmassy about it, a couple of years ago the council organised an Irish market, we went to see it and it was the very same one that’s there now, no Irish products or any kind of Irish themed stalls, all we found that was Irish was one small Irish flag.

It was the councils greed that drove the St Patrick’s day tent out of Fargate.

I do believe that internet shopping has killed the Christmas markets, just like it has done to the high street shops.

Manchester and Birmingham are just massive and most traders go there now.  The Liverpool one is equally poor.

yet skipton and many others have to turn away coach loads ,as they cannot take the coachs,york i am told is very busy,but you cannot get to the stalls,re-all markets they need a re-boost/change every few years,like a ice rink ect or they all become same old year on year,several citys have indoor funfairs/markets thats a great idea with our weather,but i believe sheffield outdoor market is run independent with the funfair people?

All xmas markets are full of overpriced stuff you don't need. Just because it's sold from a shed doesn't make it any good.
