Partly. A lot of labour voters also voted Tory because of Corbyn's views on foreign policy, IRA etc. Many others were repelled by labours socialist plans.  The only way forward for labour is to ditch Corbyn and momentum. Then move back to the centre ground and try again with a less socialist proposal combined with a leader who will be hard to attack via the media. They have five long years in the wilderness now to sort this out. Edited December 13, 2019 by nightrider
 Share this content via...
PRESLEY   1,222 #63 Posted December 13, 2019 Didn't Labour try to ditch Corbyn some time ago but due to his arrogance he wouldn't stand down.  Im staunch Labour and always have been ,Corbyn is to blame for this disaster.
 Share this content via...

I never really expected any other result, the best I hoped for was a hung parliament to at least have a little say in the running of the country, however now the Tories will just be able to push through whatever they like. 5 minutes ago, PRESLEY said: Didn't Labour try to ditch Corbyn some time ago but due to his arrogance he wouldn't stand down.  Im staunch Labour and always have been ,Corbyn is to blame for this disaster. Corbyn was never a leader for me and his sitting on the fence over Brexit made it look like he was scared to upset the remainers and also the people who wanted Brexit. I don't believe members of the shadow cabinet such as Dianne Abbott inspired confidence in the electorate, I have no idea who I would want to replace Corbyn but if they don't get it right it will be a long time before any chance of getting back in power.  The lies Boris has told, avoiding interviews, insulting the working class, his comments about women wearing burkhas looking like letterboxes, hope all the people expecting the £500 extra he promised from NI are prepared for the 5 year wait, I can't believe how people have ignored all his failings.  The LibDems, well Swinson got what she deserved, for a party with the word democrat in its name to say we will scrap Brexit straight away ignoring the people who voted for Brexit was political suicide. Michael_W   11 #65 Posted December 13, 2019 They have played identity politics for the last 15/20 years hunting for votes, then showed their own hypocrisy with the anti semitism stuff, look at the votes in London and the big cities still predominantly Labour, however they neglected and forgot about the large numbers of white working class up and down the country, some even called them priveleged, then called them bigoted and racist for voting for Brexit ..... I could go on but really I would probably be wasting my time on many, they clearly think their intentions are good some are evident on this forum ..... but this was predictable to some degree, I have said it on here many times, and no I'm not gloating, I'm a traditional ex Labour voter and ex trade union member for over 30 years of my working life, I also know the opinions I have about Corbyn, the left and the modern Labour party have been shared by many others like me for a while ! PRESLEY   1,222 #66 Posted December 13, 2019 Anybody else in the Labour party apart from Corbyn would have slammed Johnson in this election.
 Share this content via...
PRESLEY   1,222 #67 Posted December 13, 2019 Shows how bad Corbyn is when his opponent mislead the Queen, Parogued goverment and has told endless lies. Johnson will only last one term.
 Share this content via...
Colin Foster   70 #68 Posted December 13, 2019 Was surprised to see Labour hold Hallam after the farce with O'Mara. Tories came third but not that far behind Lib Dems.  I suspect a lot of Hallam voters who would normally vote Lib Dem to keep Labour out voted Tory. I reluctantly voted Lib Dem as much as I disagree with their position on Brexit, but knew voting Tory would let Labour in just like 2017. But they won, and I hope they make a good job, though I very much doubt it given their past record. Labour need a massive overhaul to get back in power, I'm a lifelong Socialist, but this must be the weakest Labour party I have ever known.. I'm afraid Jeremy wasn't good enough.
