This is NOT to become a second Brexit thread.

Thank you.

This was the IFS analysis back from when they proposed it in their 2017 manifesto.

"The tax revenue that Labour’s proposal would raise is highly uncertain. If no one changed their behaviour in response, it would raise around £7 billion per year. But some of those affected would respond by reducing their taxable incomes, reducing the amount raised. The size of the response is highly uncertain and the revenue raised is highly sensitive to the size of the response. Labour expects the policy to raise in the region of £4.5 billion per year. Based on the available evidence this looks a little on the optimistic side, but it is entirely possible. However, it is also possible that the policy would raise nothing."

The amount it would raise seems to be between nothing and £4.5 billion.

Andrew Marr has just torn  labour's Angela Raynor to bits over Labour's high earners tax policy . He pointed out to her that Labours figures just don't add up  and she just couldn't answer the question.  She was like a rabbit in the headlights .

Labour might pick a few votes in the election from the WaspI’s. They are going to compensate the 3 million women who lost out on their pension because they were expecting to retire at 60.  It’s going to cost 58b to do this.

Johnson was honest enough to say the money isn’t there when asked if he would compensate the  women.

I agree that a women’s retirement age should be the same as men, but it should have been introduced over a slightly longer period of time.

Which weirdly wasn’t in their manifesto...which is quite a big hole when it’s £58b.

It is quite a big hole, but here we go again chucking silly numbers around like they need to be paid for immediately.

The waspi women have been shabbily treated and it is right that they should get their pension entitlement reinstated.

The money will need paying over the next 20-30 years, which in the region of £2bn a year. A lot of money, but not terrifyingly so.

Sometimes you just have to do the right thing.

Interesting that Labour has announced steps to compensate the WASPI woman but their renationalisation plans could affect the pensions of current workers.  Businesses are already taking precautions against a Lab Govt.

Boris still hammering his “Get Brexit Done”slogan at every opportunity,as though it can be “done” in days or weeks.

This unnecessary saga will drag on for years with many casualties along the way.

Strange?  I thought Ms Swinson was nailing herself to be odds-on favourite to be the PM?

Nearly as funny as the Lib Dems, Chukka Umunna stating on the radio yesterday that the Lib Dems only had to win another 310 seats & they'd be in power.

Ho, hi, ha, ha.  Stop it Chukka, you're killing me.

That sort of thing just makes it more necessary to take ownership of our power generation
