If this was in the South it would have been done and dusted years ago. Tescos on Abbeydale Rd were allowed to buy land where the Hope Valley line was so unless they knock part of Tescos down 4 tracks are a no go
 Share this content via...

Annie Bynnol 612 #18 Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) Except there is no bridge or abutment above it. All structures are periodically inspected including culverts, underpasses, embankments etc. All structures would also be inspected if new work is being planned in the area. The existing twin track bridge had two single track bridges on each side, the abutments and formation running up to them are extant in both directions. There is advance planning for the extensive re-modelling of Sheffield station, Sheffield South approach and Sheffield North approach as well as the lines through to Dore. Some work has already been done parallel to Queens road which already allows for more train movements. Increasing the number of tracks at Heeley would require re instatement of one or both bridges and considerable engineering on the old formations. The subway inspection could therefore be routine or associated with the planned future work or even the not yet abandoned HS2 project into Sheffield.
