He had Captain Tom Moore on his show.  One of the best interviews I’ve watched on TV.

I wondered if the writers might have been too scared of modern-day sensibilities. For instance, why 'Why Women Kill' ? (about women killing off husbands). I'm sure an equally funny/dramatic program could have been produced; 'Why Men Kill' about guys offing their wives. I'm thinking it probably seemed easier (and less likely them getting flak) by scripting it about women. Sympathy vote from a female audience?

By the 2nd episode, however, I was in. It is very funny in the same way that 'Dead To Me', 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Six Feet Under' were funny. Dry.

Example: Jack Davenport is all a-flutter picking clothes to go on a date. He picks a peach-coloured jacket out of the wardrobe and holds it up for Lucy Liu’s appraisal. “Is this pastel too gay?”

Her reply; “Have you ever seen a straight pastel?”

 

Some great episode titles too. My fave was episode three: "I Killed Everyone He Did, But Backwards and in High Heels"

 

 

We started this last night and watched the first two. I watched all the Desperate Housewives series in the past so it's easy watching with a bit of nostalgia for what came before.  They seem a captivating cast and we have been a bit at a loss for things to watch the last couple of weeks so  I think we'll see the series through.

I won't spoil it, but I don't know if you've ever seen the Peter Jackson film 'The Frighteners' ?  Those who have will recall that easily the most fascinating part of the film is where a killer is loose in a hospital. He goes on the rampage in the brightly-lit past, yet it's spliced with how the hospital is now, deserted, dark, creepy and haunted. It's a clever piece of direction, zipping from one era to another.

There's something very similar in the final episode of 'Why Women Kill'. Three time periods intersect, three deaths occur, mostly in slo-mo, to a tango! Very clever. It's marvellous TV.  Worth staying with.

David Tennent  has played him spot on, not only the visual but the mannerisms.

 

Watching the real Neilson on YouTube, he does speak frankly about the disposing of body parts- very casually explaining like he's telling someone how to paint!

 

When I lived in London and worked near Wembley,  my employer took me to Cranley Gardens and showed me the house. It must have been around 1985 as I used to do the Sunday markets for school pocket money.

Des BBC 9pm

Last one tonight and yes Tennent was probably born to to play this part.

 

Found a letter from Neilson to someone asking if he would help him in a thesis on the criminal mind for sale on Ebay yesterday.

Basically Neilson dosn't play ball at all in the type written reply which he refused to even sign. (sold for £50)(& not to me may I add)

 

transcript below.

I have received your rough, handwritten note (undated and unaddressed) ... torn from a small note pad.

No. I have neither the time nor the inclination to indulge the fad of your 'passing' interesting in formulating your "theory on Crime and Punishment", nor in providing you with a "highly sought after signiture(sic), or "a sentence about yourself, who you are, what you were  convicted for" ... etc... 

... bearing in mind, for a moment, the impossibility of doing such a thing within the space of a sentence.

The primary way to understand human conduct, in all its intellectual and emotional diversity on a theme of instinctive 'need' comes from studying human nature and most of the answaes you will find in yourself and how you develope in tandem with your shaping experiences.

There is no such species as "serial killers" and if you believe that there is, then you will believe anything.

PS When you contemplate "pushing the boat out" you will have to be reconciled with the possibility that it might sink .... which seems to  have happened in this present case.

This was sent in 2013 and shows exactly how articulate and aloof he still was in later life and indeed how David Tennent has captured the nature of the role he is playing in Des.

I missed this so will need to catch up- but most of the details were probably covered by the 3 part with David Tennent.

 

I was watching Condor 2 (had it recorded from Wed) final part. It is ok but not as good as the first season.

A lot more in last nights program & well worth watching.

(Lots of old footage - plenty of Mk111 Cortinas, Escorts etc and even an old Bedford CA in one of the shots - happy days trying to get my old 3 speed CA up some of the hills in Sheff -LOL.)

 

Yeo Condor 2 lost the magic of 1 somehow and for me the acting just got so wooden I stopped enjoying it.

The ending is about the best part of two and personally I hope they don't make another series.
