Sheffield Matchbox Toy Buyers?

Hi,does anybody know any shops that buy old pre 1940 matchbox cars? Trying to sell them to help my grandad.

I took some more modern ones to Sheffield Auction house and they sold them for me . Recommended.

Matchbox didn't start till 1953. Possibly you mean Dinky toys that started in the 30s?

 

I've bought old toy cars via AE Dowse on Scotland St but it seems they've gone now and merged with Sheffield Auctions

  Hello, put them to auction is one option but unless they are mint and boxed do not

expect to get much for them well worn and played with " Dinky or Matchbox " toy's

are worth a lot lot less, another option is take them to a toy fair and sell them as seperate item's the dealers at toy fairs will give the best deal and you can compare yours with what's being sold to get an idea what they might be worth but remember there is a buying and a selling price dealers will buy from you as with an auction they will go as a job lot, but saying that you need to do your research first, Elsecar Heritage Center Barnsley 29 October there is a toy's fair starts at 6pm till 9pm easy to get too plenty of parking go along and look before you decide don't rush into a sale.

Exactly, the dealers at toy fairs buy most of their stock at toy auctions so a better price may be gained that way.  The downside is they may well just cherry pick and leave you with a lot of fairly average / undesirable models. If so. put them on ebay and they will sell.

Vectis are good for mint / boxed, less than that they are not so good. I repeat, most dealers at toy fairs buy from auctions so by going direct you can possibly get a better deal. Especially if they are not mint / boxed.
