Any Advice Please Lonely Dog

Recommended Posts

My ex and i have split and he has taken his dog with him and now mine is missing her terribly, he has started to mess in the kitchen and is generally unhappy.

I work full-time but go home at lunch to let him out and check on him and he's used to me doing that

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas

thanks

I'm sorry to hear this it makes a hard time worse for everyone ❤️

The way that I see it my first thought is to try to persuade your ex to let you keep the other dog or you let him take yours, a hard thing to do I know but putting the animals happiness first...

Second thought is to get your dog a new friend, but using very careful thought as to what dog as it has to be used to being left, so nothing very young or needy, a confident quiet older dog, a lot of  ex racing Greyhounds will settle in this kind of set up as they are not used to constant Human input anyway and used to kennel life with other dogs.

One last thought, do you know anyone that might enjoy the company of your dog for at least part of the time? that might make some difference to him.

I hope that you and your dog soon feel a lot happier x

Have you thought about a dog walker? That way your dog can socialise in the day which may be enough. Its not as permanent as getting a new dog which would be stressful at first.

If you can't let the dogs live together as moonbird suggests, can they spend the day together? Could the other get dropped off at yours when your ex goes to work?

I would love nothing more than the dogs to be back together but my ex wont bring her back and his new girlfriend already has a dog and i wouldn't let mine go to hers as its my ex who's is looking after hers and his dogs now, he doesnt work either and i dont particularly want him in my home.  I might consider looking for another friend x

Id second the dog walker idea, or even classes, depending on his age.
