So the establishment who are remain, passes a judgment that surprises no one. Democracy is now officially dead in the UK. RIP democracy, 17.4 million people have been betrayed by traitors and quislings. They cannot know or understand what they have done.

Sovereignty vests in Parliament, not in British subjects: there's no such thing as "will of the people" in British constitutional law. Only in populist haranguing.

No - democracy is dead if the government can shut down parliament at will to achieve their ends.

 

Then we have an elected  dictatorship.

If there is no will of the people, why have General Elections then, they are meaningless.

General Election results are not 'the will of the people', under any stretches of meaning.

 

They are the totals of valid votes, from voters expressing a preference for the Conservative party or the Labour party (simply speaking, in view of your FPTP voting system) to run the place for the next 5 years.

In that case, I’m wondering why we had a referendum (or any general election ever) anyway, if it carries no legal weight?

 

Also, should we stop calling ourselves a democracy? The title eems a little misleading...

This judgement has everything to do with Brexit!

 

Bozo was elected leader of the Conservative Party, purely because he promised that he would take the UK out of the EU on October 31st deal or no deal. Parliament made it clear that it would prevent the UK leaving with no deal and Johnson said that he would prevent them from doing that by suspending Parliament. He then went to the queen and gave her some old fanny about how he wanted to  prorogue Parliament so that she could make a speech about all his great new policies.

 

He lied to the sovereign in order to prevent Parliament interfere with his Brexit ambitions. It couldn’t be more about Brexit if you wrapped it in a flag of St George and slapped a comedy Nigel Farage mask on it! 🙄

It was he who called a referendum with no strategy or legally binding mandate as an outcome.
