Annie Bynnol 610 #1 Posted September 14, 2019 Rail travel over Christmas There are no through trains between London and Sheffield* between Saturday 21st December and Saturday 28th December inclusive. Therefore there will probably be no cheaper Advanced fares to/from London. Journey times will be a lot longer as buses will link Leicester and Bedford. *Only EMR London (and Luton Airport) trains affected Weekend trips to London also affected on: Saturday 2nd November - Sunday 3rd November Sunday 10th November Saturday 16th November - Sunday 17th November Sunday 1st December East Midland Railways
 Share this content via...

Dozer 13 #3 Posted September 14, 2019 Thanks, Annie. That's a long time -- any idea what they'll do? Is this part of the electrification? Their website is a big vague.
 Share this content via...

I expect major engineering work to take place at the "... (l)east impactful time" as it is a regular occurance on our rail network during major infrastructure projects such as the ongoing electrification, bridge and platform work between Bedford and Corby which usually need a long possessions and that this is the best time to do it. However some people do think ahead and make travel plans in advance to get the benefit from reservations and cheaper Advance tickets. Reservations and cheaper Advance tickets are often not available during these periods and some may now decide not to travel on MML because of the 'bustitution' and travel via Doncaster/Retford on the ECML or Tamworth/Stockport on the WCML.
