Hadron   10 #109 Posted September 25, 2019 Congratulations to Sir Geoffrey Boycott for being Knighted for his services to cricket. It's great when you can be so polarised into what is black and white and be blind to the colours in between. It is never that straight forward and I can see a man that has done his best despite what some people think. Elvis Presley wrote in the back of his bible “To judge a man by his weakest link or deed is like judging the power of the ocean by one wave.” I have to feel sorry for some of the posters as to their lack of life experience and tolerance. People are quite rightly questioning the appropriateness of the honour, not helped by it being given by a disgraced former Prime Minister. Unless you think he should be cast out of society forever?  The BBC and C5 don't seem to have a problem with him, which is why they still employ him.
 Share this content via...

They employ him as a cricket commentator as an ex-England batsman and someone who is very opinionated.  Awarding him an honour is a completely different thing.  Michael Jacksons’s records are still sold worldwide but I doubt that he will be receiving any awards for services to music and let’s not forget that he was never convicted of anything. Not sure what MJ has to do with it, but he won several awards after his death.
 Share this content via...

I’m pretty sure he has not been awarded anything since the Finding Neverland documentary  was first aired.
 Share this content via...

That's not what you said before though. Nice way to move the goalposts.
 Share this content via...

Sacked?  Quote “My contract with BBC finished end of last summer. I would loved to continue but need to be realistic & honest with myself. Covid-19 has made the decision for both of us.”  Boycott added that he was the “wrong age” to be working in confined spaces due to social distancing regulations.  He recently underwent a quadruple heart bypass and that the bio-secure arrangements for this summer’s Test matches were not the right environment for him at this stage of his life.  Quote Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, paid tribute to Boycott. She said: “Geoffrey has been an iconic voice in our Test Match Special box for 14 years.  “While we wish the circumstances were different, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank him for his contribution to our cricket commentary over the years and we’re still hoping to hear his unique cricketing insight at some point on TMS this summer.” Seems an odd thing to say about someone "sacked" - welcoming them back.
