yes agreed TC.   Take cheese for example.  You can't judge that by the smell of it.  If so, no one would ever eat gorgonzola!  I was thinking more of things like salads.  I am very wary of those salad bars where they have a big selection of things in a chilled cabinet.  Everything looks and smells fine, but lurking deep is the threat of things like listeria!  So-called because after ingesting it, you list over to one side, become hysterical, then drop down dead.😲

The biggest danger with salad is the water that it is washed in, not the length of time it has been sitting.

To me dodgy salads are easy to detect by the limp leaves and soft watery veg. Pre prepared salads go off so quick that if I don’t get to eat them within 24-36 hours they always end up in the bin
