Consequences Of Brexit [Part 8] Read First Post Before Posting

Vaati

Mod Note: As we are getting rather tired of seeing reports about this. The use of the word Remoaners  is to cease. Either posts like adults, or don't post at all. The mod warnings have been clear.

In addition to remoaner we are also not going to allow the use of libdums or liebore - if you cannot behave like adults and post without recourse to these childish insults then please refrain from posting. If you have a problem with this then you all know where the helpdesk is.

How many in the UK fishing industry do you think have lost their jobs since EU regulation?

How many would have lost their jobs anyway? Fish stocks were seriously depleted.

Without the CFP there may not have been any more fish to catch at all!

How many whole towns have been decimated?

The EU Common Fisheries Policy has helped, not harmed, UK fisheries:

https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/can-europe-make-it/eu-common-fisheries-policy-has-helped-not-harmed-uk-fisheries-0/

"Many ports around the UK only have a small fraction of the vessels they once had, but blaming the EU here doesn’t make much sense. First, technological changes have led to a reduction in the number of fishing vessels in developed countries both inside and outside the EU. Second, vessel decommissioning schemes from the EU actually helped many fishers and coastal communities through a difficult transition as quotas lessened. Third, one of the most significant issues for small ports is how quota is allocated between different fishing fleets and this is a national decision."

There's every chance that the decimation was inevitable and for those involved, far worse without the EU.

Brexit isn't going to help the UK fishing industry or address any of the problems it faces, a significant portion of which were a result of  UK government policy rather than the EU's.

They'll be the first under the wheels come crunch time I'll wager.

Brexit eve - I’ve never heard such tosh.

We already were a sovereign country. Why is it important to show the world we are anyway?

And at the strike of the first bong we won’t be a sovereign nation. We will still be under EU rules but with no MEPs or any representation we have absolutely zero say until any trade deal is completed.

The Lib Dems pledged to revoke Article 50 if they won the General Election. The SNP would have voted to revoke Article 50 if the Lib Dems needed the support of another party to do so.  If the electorate had wanted to remain in the EU then the Lib Dems would have been the largest party after the December General Election.  Traditional Labour leave voters switched to the Tory party because they want to leave the EU.

It was a General Election remember - not a referendum. Don't think anyone thought Swinson would have made a credible PM.

Very dodgy and doubtful.

So who did the Tory remainers vote for then?

Looking forward to beginning the celebrations and countdown on Brexit Eve.

Because it's a once in a lifetime event the atmosphere will be one of longing and anticipation.

Its gonna be magical. Can't wait!

You are aware that when we joined in 1973 we had no representation?

The EU only decided it needed a fig leaf Parliament in 1979, when the first MEPS were elected.

10 more years of Tory rule if Momentum get there way in the Labour leadership contest. Odd sort of magic for a supposed socialist.

Considering that the Tories held on to most of their remain seats I would say that most of the Tory remainers in those areas still voted Tory.

Taking back control. Removing a remote, out of touch, distant elite of the ruling class.

Decentralising power back to the people.

I have to admit, I struggled to choose.  I went with the Lib Dems but thought Jo Swinson's campaign (and her as leader) was completely wrong.

And locally the Lib Dems and Labour were at each others throats and saying to tactically vote for their respective parties to keep out the Tories, but it didn't work.

What the House of Lords is being disbanded and the electoral system is being reformed? wow - I’ll get my party poppers ready.

All this control restored to the not-at-all 'remote, out-of-touch, distant elite' of the Conservative party, seems to be working well for the good people of Poole so far: Poole gets told their A&E is at risk of closure by Conservative government, still elects Tory MP (with stomping 19k majority), sees A&E closure confirmed weeks later by Tory Health Minister.

The parallels of the above with the Brexit proceedings, now fully controlled by the not-at-all 'remote, out-of-touch, distant elite' of the Conservative party, are quite amusing.
