Consequences Of Brexit [Part 8] Read First Post Before Posting

Mod Note: As we are getting rather tired of seeing reports about this. The use of the word Remoaners  is to cease. Either posts like adults, or don't post at all. The mod warnings have been clear.

In addition to remoaner we are also not going to allow the use of libdums or liebore - if you cannot behave like adults and post without recourse to these childish insults then please refrain from posting. If you have a problem with this then you all know where the helpdesk is.

The DUP are still working with Boris to get a deal.

Boris is still figuring out how much he'll have to bung the DUP to buy their votes more like.

They should go in big style, ask for loads.

With the DUP on side he should have the votes to see it through, Corbyn can **** and moan all he likes but if Boris has the numbers we're leaving with the deal.

And those he removed the party whip from.

He's now announced the deal despite the DUP refusing to back it.

So he's now relying on convincing lots of Labour MPs to support it.

Those who lost the whip were told they'd be allowed back in should they fall into line.

I imagine that means now, back the vote and whip is restored for the (likely) general election.

Apart from the fact that negotiations ended almost a year ago, it is now clear to everyone that Johnson and his team have been lying to both the EU and the British public about the progress of any talks with the EU.

All that has happened is that Johnson has told the EU that the Irish backstop is not acceptable and Merkel has given him 30 days to come up with an alternative. That is the totality of your ‘negotiations’. Even before the bill to outlaw a no-deal exit, the EU were saying that there will be no further negotiations so even when it was still on the table it didn’t move things forward one little bit.

Still stand by that?

Absolutely.

The fact that Johnson’s plan was rejected by virtually everyone until it was completely modified at the back end last week, suggests that there were no real discussions going on with Brussels before he send his ‘not written down’ proposal which was laughed out of  court.

He has talked like a hard man for two months then sacked off all his red lines in less than a week and seems to have panicked the ERG into supporting him. Even the ERG can’t make up their minds about whether they have seen the proposals or not. Andrew Bridgen gave two interviews yesterday, one saying that the ERG have seen and discussed the proposals with Bozo and can live with them. Then on Newsnight when asked if he would support the deal in Parliament said that he hadn’t seen the proposals so would wait and see.

Tories lying to us seems to be a thing now.

I'll be amazed if it's voted through. The ones against leaving are just going to use the Ireland issue as an excuse no matter what Boris can agree with Brussels. Hopefully the DUP can be brought on side with it so it gives enough votes to stop those trying to block it, not confident though

this isn't *the deal* - this is the withdrawal agreement.

which is more or less the same as PM May's withdrawal agreement, that everyone hated.

(personally, i thought it was a pragmatic approach to a right old pickle)

It's not the same as May's though as the backstop has been removed and that was what most of the MP's who voted it down were against.

More or less it's the same deal, one subject has been modified but rest is expected to be as it was.

The same deal that everyone was railing against when it was put forward last year, I struggle to believe that they all cared so deeply about the Irish Border.

I agree, prior to the Benn bill it was fairly clear jack-sh*t was being done and Boris was happy to run the clock down and leave with nothing.

All of the talk coming out of Brussels was that talks were short, stalled quickly and nothing had been done.

It's only now that his hands have been held to the fire that actual progress (and concessions) have been made, from the looks of things most of the movement has been done by us.
