I'm not sure how much help clubs can offer other clubs before they fall foul of the regulations set in place by the footballing governing bodies and maybe more could have been done to help. A big problem with helping out though is the message it sends to owners of clubs who may feel that they can mismanage their clubs and be bailed out by others. The situation is very emotive as football fans invest a great deal of their lives into supporting their club but ultimately a club is a business and if a business is not run properly then it will fail. It is not really the responsibility of other businesses to bail another business out when it is in difficulty.

 

 

Its far from a pot shot at you bud,im just pointing out the irony of the situation & suggesting ways it could have been prevented as your post invited me to do.

Theres a lot thats wrong in football and untill its forced to look at itself and sort it out,it will carry on and clubs will continue to fold.

All true. Bury FC is a limited company governed by company rules..it's not a community asset or a charity. Which unfortunately means that when it is missmanged it can be bought and sold for tuppence, loaded with debt, it's assets sold off, it's ground re-mortgaged and creditors can get 1p in the pound when it goes to the wall.

 

Man Utd is also crippled with debt that the US owners have put on it....but in their case they can manage to pay the interest bills.

Football was far more  ecxiting to watch when it was still a sport,it was more unpredictable,it wasnt as skillfull possibly,but it was far more simplistic,everbody kicked off at 3pm on a saturday,the FA cup meant a scramble for tickets,full houses across the country on 3rd round day.

The formation of the premier league,took away the innosence,and made it a business,but fans arent all businessmen,there still fans,the hefty rewards on offer for reaching the prem tempt  the ambitious into overspending,or bending the rules and flirting with rule books,creative accounting,loopholes are all commonplace for that opportunity to reach skys promised land and universal coverage and mega bucks financial deals that secure premier status and the financial rewards it embraces.

The premier league is two tier competition,the all powerfull 6,plus 14 also rans,lttle wonder many europeans prefer to watch championship football,if only the EFL had bigger balls

 It's that million to one lottery ticket, every team that goes up hopes to be the next Blackburn or the next Leicester to break the reign of the top dogs. However, I firmly believe the English game, as we know it, has been raped by greedy foreign businessmen, and the PL is nothing but a cash cow for foreign owners, players and Sky. Fans are at the bottom of the list of considerations.

Football needs a regulatory body,thats not connected to the game,the EFL and FA are all football people and there in lies the problem
