ANGELFIRE1 10 #1 Posted August 16, 2019 I always thought that the Speaker was chosen for their fairness and impartiality. Is Bercow either of these. Angel1.
 Share this content via...
altus 540 #2 Posted August 16, 2019 Broadly, he seems to be both. Part of the job of the speaker is to ensure the government is accountable to parliament. Are you upset about Bercow's comments about him being determined to do that part of his job?
 Share this content via...

He is there a ‘chair’ of the Commons to make sure that Parliamentary business is carried out both fairly and efficiently.
 Share this content via...
geared 319 #4 Posted August 16, 2019 He seems to be one of the few in Parliament that wants to see issues resolved by the house. Everyone else is looking for ways to bypass Parliament and achieve their aims through other means.
 Share this content via...

retep 68 #7 Posted August 16, 2019 He can kick and scream and make a scene, but doesn't seem to be able to get his way, like the rest of the traitors. "Mr Wilson revealed that practically speaking, the Speaker would have no authority to prevent Parliament from being perogued. But he did warn Mr Bercow could - and would - “make a scene”. He said: “The Speaker, if he was bloody minded, and he is, could make a scene and could refuse to go along with some of the ceremonial aspects of it, thereby making a story out of that. “Traditionally the Speaker and MPs walk up to the House of Lords to hear it, but John Bercow could refuse to do that and sit in his chair and make it a media event, but it would by no means stop it being effective." https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1165996/Brexit-news-John-Bercow-stop-Boris-Johnson-proroguing-Parliament
 Share this content via...
