pattricia   574 #1 Posted August 4, 2019 I have two very high conifer hedges on my back garden. My gardener cuts them once a year on my side, but the man next door is complaining that they are encroaching on his garden on his side. Who is responsible to cut these, my gardener or my neighbour ? Sidonica   10 #2 Posted August 4, 2019 (edited) Your neighbour is, as far as I know, responsible for the cutting of his side of the hedge.  How high is the hedge? I should add I believe there is a 6 foot limit to how high you can grow a hedge, would it be difficult for your neighbour to cut the hedge because of this?       Edited August 4, 2019 by Sidonica ............ According to the house deeds the right hand side is the neighbours responsibility , the left hand side mine.
 Share this content via...

There used to be a scheme in force whereby you paid around £300 to the local authority and they arbitrated to a conclusion. Council told me that they no longer get involved. I`m also informed there is `no right to light`  My neighbour`s trees that are right up againt the border are taller than my house gutter.   Edited August 4, 2019 by Janus
 Share this content via...

I find it hard to believe that people have ever had to prune their hedge on both sides.  My neighbours trees are way  above the roof of our house and the hedge is hers but we prune it on our side and the top only because otherwise we would never get any sunlight in our garden.
 Share this content via...
pattricia   574 #12 Posted August 4, 2019 Mine is a private house not council. The thing is the same neighbour has a conifer hedge himself on our front gardens. He cuts his part then comes round and cuts the hedge on my part. So I feel obliged to do the same for him on our back hedge.
 Share this content via...
