Dire Circumstances - 6 Week Parliament Break.

As we are in dire circumstances, murders by shooting and stabbing, lack of Police on the streets, Tankers hijacked at sea, lack of Doctors and Nurses, not enough soldiers, aircraft or warships, kids only going to school 4.5 days a week in some areas and of course Brexit.  Not only that, the Tory 4 week vote that could have been done in one to select their Leader. You get the drift, we are in a bit of a mullox. What does Parliament do about our problems, suspend their holidays, decide to work "overtime."  No, off they trot for the usual annual 6 week break. I have only one question to ask - why are they allowed to do it. After all we are all in it together, aren't we. Apart from Teachers not many of us have lengthy school holidays.

You forgot to add the conference season that starts immediately when they come back. So you can stritch another 2 to 3 weeks.

The only thing which is time critical is Brexit, and given that this needs the participation of the EU, it’s a bit pointless the UK Parliament suspending its summer break when there is no one to deal with in Brussels.

 

Unless you are suggesting that the EU Parliament suspends its break to deal with a mess of our making?

Ironically after the recent general election in Greece, the new man in charge decided parliament was going to forgo their holiday and work through the summer.

Because Brexit isn’t happening. They all know it. Most of them will be on mainland Europe with their trotters up.

Johnson, on the eve of his decision to back leave, penned two articles for his newspaper column. One convincingly pro leave, the other convincingly pro remain.

 

He basically flipped a coin and picked one, it was published and that was effectively his announcement on which campaign he was going to back.

 

He’s a maverick. If he can be PM for 5 or 10 years by cancelling Brexit he will do it. He Is amoral, has no beliefs, and has no strong ethics of any kind. He does the opposite of what people want him to, almost just for fun.

 

He wants to be on the good side of history, not the bad.

He is well known as a people pleaser so the idea of going down in history as the worst Prime Minister ever really wont appeal to him.

I agree with your sentiments.  However, until Brexit is implemented all the other things wrong with our country will not get the attention they deserve.  The long summer holiday for Parliament will give our new Prime Minister a good period of time to work on implementing the 2016 EU referendum result without being interrupted by the nonsense that has happened in Parliament during the last three years.
