Councils Charging Householders To Dump Waste.

I haven’t got any other waste. I have a toilet seat. How much to dispose of a toilet seat?

As a point of reference I can dispose of oil, rubble and topsoil at my local tip, 50kg of plasterboard (!) and two sheets of asbestos  (!!!!!!!!!) all for free but not, according to you, a toilet seat.

I know you have the inside specialist knowledge on this subject but surely you can see how it looks to the rest of us mortals.

Under the rules that Chez is talking about plasterboard would also be construction waste, as would rubble and possibly topsoil.  Not sure about oil, hard to argue that it's construction or demolition waste, but it's not normal household waste either.

Fortunately in Sheffield we can still dispose of all of it for free.

Surely I am not the only one who feels the changes we are hearing about are the thin end of the wedge. Where will it end potentially?

No idea. Increased charges in Sheffield for specialist toilet seat disposal? All out civil war?

Just remind me again though why having to pay for a service justifies dumping rubbish ?

I use the same waste disposal as others - 2 x 25kg bags of ballast or demolition rubble per week. I had 6 bags to get rid of.

went in my car Saturday morning with 2 bags and some other stuff, sleeper offcuts etc, went late that afternoon with 2 more in my wifes car and some other stuff.

Went Sunday - start of the new week to me - and dumped the last two with some other stuff.

Now had i paid someone to remove all the rubble at the same time, i bet there's a 50/50 chance of it being flytipped.

I did observe someone from Mangala cafe depositing numerous bin bags in the public waste bin across the road last night whilst i was stuck at the non working traffic lights. Rather that than it left around the place.

Its your legal responsibility to get a copy of their carriers licence and a copy of the site exemption or permit where they wast will be deposited and check they are valid. Also for householders you don't need a waste transfer note but you do need something like a receipt or collection note which they usually bring if you have a skip) describing what the waste is and where it is going. If you don't do this and its found fly tipped you can be fined. They are starting to fine householders who don't carry out this duty of care because people aren't using reputable waste companies. Just because they have a yard and vehicles doesn't mean they are legal. Look on our Twitter feed at the prosecutions.
