So you're tootling along at 50 and then slow down further to "allow them to pass", and you wonder why they might offer a friendly hand gesture?

Still bad driving, showing impatience, worst thing possible in a driver.

Are you for real?

An HGV driver usually covers much greater distances than you and has to meet deadlines based on average journey times within the constraints of the tachograph laws.

Drivers’ rest breaks are determined by time driven, not distance covered. A truck driver driving 300 miles at 56 mph to reach a depot will take forty minutes longer to reach their destination if they are stuck at 50 mph. Not only does that make them 40 minutes late, depending on how long they have been driving, they may find themselves ten miles from their destination and then have to take a regulation 45 minute rest break. In some exceptional circumstances, they may have to take a 48 hour rest break.

So no, a truck driver stuck behind you at 50 mph is not being impatient, they are just trying to do their job and comply with the law!

One could argue that unnecessarily delaying the flow of motorway traffic and forcing hundreds of other drivers into manouveres is even more rude.

I admire your restrained language - I'm sure the HGV drivers would use something a little more "earthy".

In what way was that exaggerating? It's not on the same level as, say, "hurtling along at 30", is it?

Nice one. You've done some fantastic work trolling on this thread and it's been quite entertaining at times, I have to admit.
