Why do RAF Jets escort plane's?

The USAF sent up aircraft once they realised what was happening with explicit instructions to shoot them down but they were not able to get there in time. It's also fairly easy to spot aircraft on radar especially if they are going into airspace that is meant to be clear...

As for the amount of QRA aircraft there are more than sufficient at Coningsby and Lossiemouth to deal with the incidents in the UK

I saw on a documentary that as soon as the jets are deployed on QRA, another set are prepared and ready to go incase of another incident.  We have more of those aircraft than I realised.

I'm not able to divulge the exact number available but it's public knowledge there are at least six available (and pilots ready) to put up from both air group North and South.

If the USA had been able to react in time, and had a suitable policy they could have shot down the relevant airliners before they flew into the twin towers...

Thats the reason for the QRA aircraft following airliners these days if there is a hint of any problems...

Many people believe the US fighters DID get to United 93 in time over Pennsylvania.

On the documentary I was referring to the journalist asked one of the pilots if he would shoot down a commercial aircraft should that command come.  I thought that was a bit of a daft question considering the pilots job.  I appreciate it is a last resort.  I also think that the 'warning' flares that the jets give off are amazing.  Wouldn't like to be on an aircraft and see them though!

Many people believe that the earth is flat. That they have been abducted by aliens. That the world is run by the Illuminati and New World Order That god exists in real life.

That doesn’t mean that any of it is true! 😂

I think that's a trick reply...of course the Earth isn't flat. The others are all true though ;)

God actually posts on here, or is it a case that they think they are?

During all the panic of that day there was a farmer eye witness in Pennsylvania who said on live TV that that plane exploded in mid air. I was working that day and only heard stuff second hand. However when I got home, my daughter told me about this farmer's words to the reporter, and that footage has never been seen since.Other people saw it too.

However I fully expected some smartass comments about flat eath and all that.If you check my posting history, as I know you do that stuff , you will not find any conspiracy theories brought forward by me.You can also check back to 2012 when I had the username TORONTONY. This changed in 2017 due to my misunderstanding of forum rules, at that time.

I suppose it is a last resort after intercepting the aircraft and non compliance of said aircraft.

Sacrifice a couple of hundred to save thousands I guess. Not a nice decision to make tho.

Of course, I could believe the unattributed witness testimony of a random farmer or I could instead choose to believe the NTSB report including the evidence from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder.

I guess you’ll just have to call me picky! 😳

I totally agree.  Glad it will never be my decision to make.
