So the £37million is after their investment in Leeds, which is not entirely funded by them but also by grants from both central and local government. The investment in new buses for Leeds is entirely down to First. The retro-fitting of some of the older members of the fleet is what is getting SOME investment from local and national government. Only some of the cost though. The article refers to 6 buses for the park and ride service that is operated under contract to Metro with vehicles provided by Metro. These vehicles are Hybrid and the bill for 6 was approx £2M. The 200 buses provided by First to comply with the non achievable clean air scheme have been paid for by First alone. These buses are slightly cheaper as they are micro hybrid and produce approx the same emissions and a full hybrid. You would get 7 of these for £2M, First have introduced approx 200 of them over the last 12 months, and paid for them. These buses are the reason some mid life buses have been moved to Sheffield where they cant afford as many new buses, and, if things keep going the way they are will very likely end up on the stock list of another group should a buyer be found who wants to take on the remnants of the South Yorkshire operations. Andy C   83 #52 Posted June 20, 2019 (edited) just a quick bit of ticket suggestion for those of you that buy First weekly tickets for your commute as the strikes are just over a week away....  If on the strike days you will be travelling on the services of another bus company or on the tram you may be better off buying an all operator ticket from the Travelmaster range instead:  Travelling within Sheffield: Sheffield Citybus (any bus) £16.30 Sheffield Citywide (any bus and tram) £17.30  Travelling between Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster: (For some journeys the best option may be either by train or alternatively tram to Rotherham then a Stagecoach bus onwards towards Doncaster) South Yorkshire Connect (any bus and tram) £23.50 South Yorkshire Connect+ (any bus, tram and train) £29.70  More details of the above tickets can be found at www.sytravelmaster.com Timetables for all services in South Yorkshire can be found at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com.
