Or it could be as previously stated - the cenotaph isn't managed by the council.

My father was on D Day +1, fought at the battle of Caen until the end of July, (I now know,) but he never spoke about the war. My grandfather died on the 1st day of the Battle of the Somme, that was tragic.

 

Harry Smith thé Barnsley born ex Serviceman who fought in WW2 and who died aged 95 two years ago talked of a " treacle nostalgia " that has taken over..

 

It was gratifying to see the British Legion separating themselves from  many of these extreme Right Wing groups who try to appropriate the history of wars and soldiers for their own cynical purposes
