No flag raised on the Cenotaph for D Day anniversary

An oversight, a conscious decision, or just not necessary?

To get back to the original question, the Cenotaph is the responsibility of The British Legion and they chose not to put a flag up. They have protocols governing when flags can be raised and anniversaries are not included.

Yes indeed Hitler being forced use a ton of men and munitions on both the Eastern front and in Italy was key to the success of June 6th 1944. Had those two fronts not existed Hitler's Atlantic sea wall would have been much more heavily defended and DDay would have been called off. Worse still it might have gone ahead and we would likely have had another Dunkirk with thousands of allied troops trapped on the beaches,unable to establish beacheads.

There is a Normandy Memorial in Weston Park, that’s where the memorial service happened. It shouldn’t take too much thought to work out why.

 

There’s another service and s flypast on Saturday in Norfolk Park.  Maybe some of the moaners could attend that, instead of moaning.

They'll no doubt boycott it and be furious that the council arranged for BBMF to fly over Norfolk Park instead of the Cenotaph....

The centenary was significant and had to be commemorated, but apart from that the first world war has dipped down now as there is virtually no one left that lived through it that was old enough to remember it. The second world war however is still part of the elderly generations consciousness.

I think the poster was 'wittily' trying to equate Hitler (a mass murdering dictator, responsible for the death of millions of innocent citizens) with Trump (a democratically elected president who says a few things on Twitter that annoy lefties).
