Yes that was a huge building which is still there but no longer a pub.

The Ball, Darnall Road must be the tallest pub. A lovely building too. Been shut down for a few years now but the original interior disappeared long before it closed.

Yes that was a big pub, I was looking at a picture of it only the pther day.

You are correct the "Railway " was it's nickname.

Yew Tree at Coal Aston / Dronfield I think plus there may be on up Manor Top.

Big Tree on Woodseats - not sure if it's the actual original tree. Might be like Trigger's broom

The current tree in front of Big Tree is a replacement following gales a few years ago.

Yes - I was thinking the Park was among the biggest.

I seem to remember the two Cross Scythes - Totley and Derbyshire Lane being fairly substantial.

Mind you, pubs in Sheffield seemed tiny compared to some of the monsters you used to get in mining villages - thinking the Queens in Maltby as an example. Biggest pub I ever went in was in Bordesley Green in Birmingham when I was visiting some friends - can't remember its name but it was like two big mining village pubs in one.

I've googled a pic of the pub - now a McDonalds - but could have sworn it wasn't red brick - grey colour if I remember, and can't recall it being on a roundabout. Mind you, only went the once. Size is about right though.

By big pubs do we mean bar and lounge area or size of the building ?

PS The Railway Hotel on the Wicker was where Laurel and Hardy once stayed !
