No but it should not be automatic but in addition if any further offense is committed  it should be automatic that the offender first serves the full period of remission prior to their new sentence

I'd settle for a bit of honesty. Stop pretending an eight year sentence is anything other than four and stop calling fifteen years life.

I'd agree with that. If I stabbed someone I'd fully expect to be out in 7 years and that's not enough.

Only if you fix the sentence at a much lower rate tarrif at sentencing.

Then you run into problems with the mandatory life sentence for murder

So.

To answer your question.

No.

Tarrif?

Tarrif?

What nonsense is this, autocorrect?

Tariff

Should remission be scrapped and prisoners serve their full sentence ?   Yes.

If you cause another human to die by nefarious means, then a full life sentence should be mandatory. Full life meaning you only get out in a wooden overcoat.

If a prisoner knows that they have to serve the full sentence, does the prison service have any alternative bargaining chips to ensure good behaviour?

More importantly, what does the state have as a bargaining chip to try and ensure any form of redemption?

We lock people away as punishment, not for punishment.

Once you start denying anyone their chance of genuine remorse, you've left the path of humanity and decency.

If a prisoner misbehaves remove their visits ,put them on 23 lock up ,use solitary confinement etc  one thing most prisoners look forward to is their fortnightly visits

Fair comment. Maybe we start with 30, out in 15. 7 years isn’t enough for murder.
