The price of football tickets

The ticket prices really go through me.

In fact the most satisfying thing about Premier League football for me has to be the refreshing £30 maximum ticket price cap on away games, with a large percentage of teams working together on the "twenty's plenty" scheme.

It makes the £33-38 ticket prices at the likes of Wendesday and Leeds look ridiculous really.

I don't think you can justify it by saying "you get what you pay for", especially so when it costs less to go and watch some of the finest footballers in the world in the top flight.

Eventually; somebody needs to do something about this...We should all be paying the same at every ground.  It still works very well in Germany, with capacity attendances!

It doesn't make the Wednesday/Leeds ticket prices look ridiculous when you consider the facts that the teams you mention in the Premier League get huge revenue from TV rights and don't actually really need ticket money whilst the EFL force clubs to spend only what they raise in revenue with the ridiculous FFP rules.

Chansiri himself has said that income from Tickets is insignificant to his plans... Why set them highest in the league then? There'll be many next year cheaper than us (then large majority), and alot will have just as much, if not a bigger chance of promotion

Yet the majority of the league are able to price sensibly, whilst remaining competitive?

I dont see what you are trying to say bud? Ticket revenue accounts to little in the grand scheme of things anyway truth be said!....

And then you look at us....Promoted with little expenditure and sensible ticket pricing. You don't achieve enough from tickets alone to be competitive.

Where does the majority of revenue come from for Championship teams in that case?

Uniteds certainly wasn't sensible as the "financial blackhole" was constantly being plugged by the owner to the tune of £70m it was totally unsustainable.

Course it was, they did it on a budget, with fair prices. We wasted millions and are still charging fans £33 as a starting price

So why did McCabe in the High Court state that he could no longer sustain plugging a financial blackhole and he had to pump money in to stop the club going into embargo?

Did they or did they not do it on a fraction of our budget ? And how big would the black hole have been if they'd spent what we spent ?

This is not about budgets or how much teams have spent, it's about charging fair prices, and £33 at the cheapest is not a fair price. How you can argue that is beyond me ?

I'm saying that Uniteds ticket pricing was not sustainable, if McCabe had not put his own money in they would have been in trouble, the word demise was mentioned in court.

I agree £33 is too expensive but only a very small percentage of the crowd will pay that, 21K season ticket holders certainly dont.

The wasting of millions was not intentional though was it, to be fair to Chansiri he asked the fans to buy into his plan with the ticket prices (which we can argue all day about), and he delivered in terms of signings like Bannan , Hooper, Fletcher, Forestieri, Reach. The fact that after two seasons of almost succeeding the team/club succumbed to bad form, a glut of injuries and some unsuccessful signings like Jones, Boyd, Rhodes, Abdi etc, we would all be singing his praises regardless of the cost. Comparing the good fortune of that lot at S2 doing it on a budget, is still not what most clubs in the Championship are going to do, many would love to spend what Wednesday did and the relegated Premier league clubs still can, but nobody is guaranteed success, the Wednesday supporters still want the better players to stay and that means the club paying their 'top end championship' wages, or selling them on and potentially stop challenging to get to where we all want to be, despite our concerns about the stupid money in football ruining the game.

Elsewhere! Football clubs outside of the top flight are generally run at just above cost, down to even running at a loss.

Matchday revenue equates generally to anywhere between 30-40% of total income depending on stadium capacity, but this principally made up of Season Tickets sold. The total income from POTG / walk in sales is absolutely minimal!

Once you take out all of the running costs associated with a home fixture, some clubs are left with less than six figures profit.

Football clubs are NOT profitable businesses outside of the top flight, hence why the FFP rules were brought into play in order to protect clubs from stupid decisions.

Re: United -  100% correct! United's losses were being subsidised by the owner!...Part and parcel of running a football club.

Since our fall from the Premier League last time out, we have found ourselves feeling the costs.

Despite parachute payments, our operating costs strangled us and we made wholesale losses (as did most relegated clubs). We then had the pinch of year to year losses as most clubs do and as a result, Mr McCabe had to continuously balance the books.

We have learnt over time and have become far more sustainable as a club.... The total losses in the league last season equated to between £450m-£500m, with the average club reporting losses of anywhere between £10m-£20m.

Our losses are reported as down at around £5m per annum at the minute (even projected losses), when you factor in the near 100% rise in player wages since promotion from League One, this is pretty impressive going.

................................................................................................................................................................

In conclusion, you can't argue all you wish that ticket prices are the key to success, but as a Championship club the revenue is minimal in comparison. If anything, season tickets are the answer!

The majority of income comes from a combination of Broadcasting rights (set amount >%50), Sponsorship deals, Commercial deals and hospitality. All of which being quite limited as once again I reiterate....Football outside of the top flight is a loss making game due to the constraints!

So what if you have an owner that hasn't got that sort of money to put in? If its part and parcel why has McCabe said under oath that he no longer wants to plug the financial blackhole, surely if its "part and parcel" it shouldn't be a surprise.

Ticket pricing is nothing to do with a club losing that much money

You could argue that 21k is only 50% full, and the rest is empty because the prices are too high. This is is not about season tickets, for many they're not an option

We're nowhere near to challenging and haven't been for 2 seasons. So what are the prices for ?

We still have big earners at the club and challenging is not guaranteed, is it ?

Chansiri said we can have cheaper tickets but the forfeit is big money players, take your choice, we were never going to challenge prior to him coming in and spending !

Why did we get less than 21k (around 11-12k) ST holders when Milan Manderic was chairman, your arguments don't stack up.
