Problem was, when you have guests and the Ooooh, goes to an Oh! I used a bit of host politeness and binned it.

Very good thing to do as the host, imagine the phone call - I think you might have poisoned me with your moldy cheese.

A bit of mould can be trimmed off and the hard rind you can get on older cheese makes lovely cheese on toast. I was born years before “use by” and “best before” dates so use my eyes and nose to assess if something is okay
