lil-minx92   10 #1 Posted April 12, 2019 Hi I have a privet hedge around my front garden, but its a bit sparse at the bottom (I assume the previous owner didnt trim it back frequently enough as it grew to keep it dense), hence you can see bare earth and the twiggy stems of the privet.  Looking for a ground covering plant that spreads & sits low & tightly on the ground to suppress weeds and cover the bare soil up and give a 'green carpet' appearance. I'm not too bothered whether it has nice flowers or not but it would be a bonus. Id prefer evergreen or at least perennial. Its obviously quite a shady location.  Maybe another option is to plant more privet to 'fill the gap'?  Thanks
 Share this content via...
Thorpist   72 #2 Posted April 12, 2019 Hi Your problem is the privet will dry out the soil underneath, adding compost will help Assuming it's quite dry take a look at this plant  Liriope muscari. If is has damper conditions a Bergenia may fit the bill.
 Share this content via...
