Illegal Microsoft Office?

I got a copy of Microsoft Office from my local Trade It shop (not the national one) for 30 quid, installed. Apart from a few bugs in this Office which I removed, it has worked well for 6 months but yesterday Microsoft popped up with a note asking me for the licence number. They also altered my setting so that I cannot edit. I had already asked the shop for the licence number when I bought it but they refused and said that I would not need it. How wrong they were and how trusting I was. Microsoft said my Office is supposed to work with other PCs in an office, not as a stand alone. Trade It has gone bust and closed down so what can I do to get my Office going again? It's on Windows 10.  I have copies of my documents on a firestick.

Why would you do that when legit, licensed copies of Office 2019 are available for £25-27 with a valid key?

Switch to Linux where everything is free and open source.

I have Open Office but when I do an OCR scan the scan result only offers to send it to Microsoft  Word, not Open Office. I tried to send it to Open Office but no go. 

 

Linux, yes. What would happen to my access to my existing Windows Word files and CRO scans if I switched to Linux?

LibreOffice is now at 6.2 and the interface can be made to look similar to the latest M$ offering - and when I couldn't access a Text Maker document for editing, LibreOffice 6.2 saved the day.

Get LibreOffice from here (LibreOffice has more to offer than OpenOffice):

What you were probably sold wrongly by the Shop, for M$ rules - Maybe Was a Volume licence Copy of Office, which still needs to be licensed for single users, to use Legitamately

 

So you would need a new Key to use it Legit...

 

Some unscrupulous Dealers have. Always done this.

If you were a Firm you could pay for this as a Volume License, and put multiple copies on multiple machines, say in an IT Dept.

How come Office is so cheap nowadays, especially the Professional editions? Doesn't seem that long ago that I recall seeing prices up in the £200-300+ range.
