LGBT issues and morality

Recommended Posts

Apparently on BBC Question Time, which was from Sheffield last Thursday, the question was asked:

Is it morally right that five-year-old children learn about LGBTQ+ issues in school?

This question follows a number of recent high profile cases where LGBTQ+ issues and schools have been in the news. Firstly some parents in Birmingham have complained about their children being told that there are different types of families

"We are not teaching children about same sex couples in the sense of sexual relationships, what we do teach our children is that there are different families and that there are families with two mummies, two daddies." (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-47692617 )

The very fact that the question was asked in the first place caused some fairly high profile people to take to twitter: (https://www.msn.com/en-gb/entertainment/tv/damaging-stars-criticise-bbc-for-airing-lgbtqplus-debate-on-question-time/ar-BBVnZiN?ocid=spartanntp).

Secondly MPs, just this week voted overwhelmingly to approve LGBTQ+ inclusion in guidance on sex and relationships in education.

This is a perennial issue, and I wondered what Forummers views are.

Not a moral issue at all, it is one of education. There are different types of families, that is a fact and kids should be taught about them.

Not sure about age but I believe there are primary school kids who are being bullied for having same sex parents. In that case, primary school kids should be taught about all the various types of families.

Is it morally right to teach kids that some people are gay and have relationships?

Its a no brainer, of course it is. It should be taught along side traditional relationships in schools.

Should it be from the age of 5?

No, not really. Let kids be kids and start teaching them about relationships/sex when they are mature enough to process this kind of information. Id say 10 years old upwards.

Correct answer.

Only the absolutely retarded would have issues with the  curriculum in this instance. The people who complain have absolutely no idea what the content being taught is. There is nothing of concern to a reasonable person. The most contentious bit is the fact a child could have two mothers of two fathers. That's it.

Hots on is trying to make it an Islam thing although all sorts of religious extremists are opposed to the teaching of gay equality including Orthodox Jews, various Pentecostal churches and the Jehovas Witnesses.

I'm well aware that there are elements In all sections of society that are uneasy about the LGBT issue, but it is particularly an issue amongst the various ethnic minority groups who are on the whole quite socially conservative.

Even The Daily Mail realises it's not just muslims complaining.

Oh what joy, you're such a ****.

If the left truly  want multiculturalism they need to accept that some cultures don't want LGBT rights forced upon them.
