Engine Specialist, Dunford Bridge Area.

Recommended Posts

Trying to remember the name of the chap who had a machine shop I think at Dunford Bridge, or possibly a village in the area. It was in an old stone building. He specialised in motorcycle/car engines. Must have been well know at the time (1960s) as the racing fraternity used him. His first name was Jack.

Hello carosio

I live at Dunford Bridge and have consulted a friend of mine who has lived in the area all his life and says you are probably talking of Jack Bailey who lived at Carlecotes.  Jack also worked for Hepworths, the pipe manufacturer at Crow Edge as an engineer.  Sadly Jack is no longer with us.

Thanks, that's him, he was a specialist on Manx Nortons ; he was getting on then. I remember going to his engineering workshop with Pete Richards, an Australian m/cycle racer who had a Manx. Pete and his wife bought a house on Lyminster Rd S6 and stayed in the UK a while, he worked as a coach builder at Kennings Coachworks on Penistone Road.

I think the chap who was a motorbike engineer had a garage in Thurgoland just above the Green  Dragon, I once delivered I once delivered the frame of a Side Car to his garage.
