nortonlees 10 #1 Posted March 21, 2019 A record company would like to use a track from my old band Typhoon Saturday on a compilation of 80s Sheffield bands - I'm struggling to find someone who can help me digitise an old band demo which is on a 10.5" reel.... Any leads much appreciated.
 Share this content via...

Top Cats Hat 10 #3 Posted March 21, 2019 Is it a standard 1/2" wide 7.5"/s single play open reel tape? I know someone who still had a Revox B77 a few years ago and will check to see if she still has it. Won't the label arrange for it to be transferred? goldenfleece 11 #4 Posted March 21, 2019 I transfer tapes for customers in all formats, from the BBC archive down to individual tapes. Please give me details on track format, speed and duration. I can provide CD version of lossless audio cloud streaming or download versions
 Share this content via...

Might have been recorded on a Revox A77, perhaps at 15 ips, either 1/4 or 1/2 track. I had one of these but sold it last year, still have 3 others though. Top Cats Hat 10 #7 Posted March 21, 2019 Slight thread drift but there is a resurgence of open reel hi-fi with a few companies selling 1/4" tapes recorded from the original mastered stereo tape. Obviously there is a very limited catalogue and they are ludicrously expensive (something like £400 an album) but the dynamic range on them would be fantastic. 😄
 Share this content via...

The company might cover costs, but I don't trust the tape being posted anywhere...
 Share this content via...

What speed? how long is the track? - they didn't ask for any other details, track name, label, company, other people involved - without the info above, no one can advise any further on costs/capability etc...
