For political reasons is the most simple answer. Everybody knows there is illegality and a severe democratic deficit.

 

The promise of Brexit is being used to maintain party cohesion for the Tories, and for Labour the concept of Lexit is important.

 

Neither are founded in reality, both parties have turned inward and neither will ever be forgotten by the electorate.

Royal Assent given to the no deal no brexit law...

So May gets two choices either extend or retract A50. The EU are just goign to stonewall now and bluff and say, no extension knowing she must withdraw A50 now....

It's illegal. As in it was so corruptly run that the Electoral Commission said so and gave copious reasons for it.

The EU have no view or interest in the referendum. They have reacted to the triggering of A50 by the UK.

Can't see that happening as it wouldn't do them any favours at all, more likely to offer a long extension, maybe 12 months minimum.

Actually the EC said no such thing, it is a conclusion that the media and others have made out of the EC findings. What the EC said was the some aspects of the campaign were illegal and electoral law was broken, they have never stated to my knowledge that the referendum itself was illegal because of that.
