JFKvsNixon 11 #3013 Posted February 16, 2019 (edited) Why do I feel like I'm living in a disaster movie, where we are slowly edging our way forward into the abyss? Many Brexiteers have stated, it's not about money it's about the principles, and they'll accept being worse off. Will they also accept poorer services from the NHS, less teachers and police, weaker armed forces, a smaller pension and even more homeless on our streets? These are the real consequences of Brexit. I find the sense of entitlement that some Brexiteers hold to be bewildering. One thing and one thing only holds clout when negotiating trade deals, and that is power. We are throwing away the power get the best the trade deals with China and the US as equals, confident that our demands will be met, and instead want to rely upon previous achievements to make our way in the world. It's telling that so many countries are refusing to roll over our current EU trade deals, and want to renegotiate them. They know that we are in a far worse negotiating position, and want to take advantage of it. To make matters worse, the UK is now perceived as being unreliable, unable to stick to our agreements, and libel to want to want to come back in six months to renegotiate when the reality hits home. The cherry topping off my angst, is the current state of the Labour party. The biggest issue in living memory and they do not have a coherent policy to approach it. All they seem worried about, is how whatever stance they make could effect their chances at the next General Election. Does Corbyn really believe they should be striving to become the captain of the Titanic after it's hit the iceberg, rather than working hard to help it avoid the iceberg altogether? The sad truth is that we have two backward looking parties running our Parliament. One wants to take us back to the 1950s the other wants to take us back to the 1970s. I've always said the biggest price we've paid for our Empire is that we will forever seem to be a backward looking nation, always trying to recreate what we once were, rather than looking to the future challenge of adapting to an ever changing world. These are facts (no links it’s 1.30 in the morning): businesses are leaving the Uk because of brexit. Fact. The US wants deal where they can sell us food with standards much lower than we are used to, and health companies want to pluck apart 5e NHS . Fact. We still don’t know if we’re getting a deal or not and that results in business uncertainty which affects investment. Fact. Not “crystal ball gazing”. Not “project fear”. Facts. Now if you like running towards cliff edges or doors that may or may be locked, safe in he knowledge that anything could happen, the hand of god could be underneath that cliff edge or that door will spring open - that’s your look out and that’s fine. Everyday must be an adventure. But it’s no way to run a country.
 Share this content via...

There's so many people on the fence with this, good ideas coming from both sides etc. Who on earth wants our country to fall apart? None of us do. It's not us guys at the bottom who are the problem, it's the clowns in Westminster. I hate to see the man on the street at odds with his neighbors over an issue that can only be sorted at the top. We gave them a job to do, and they've failed. Miserably.
 Share this content via...
