It's interesting to play with the Charity  data.  http://beta.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/?q=Eton

The system is obviously being abused .

I searched 'Eton' and got 20 replies. Its amazing what qualifies as a charity.

Here's one - The Kynge's College Of Our Ladye Of Eton Besyde Windesore - Income£73.4M - Spending£74.9M

On the Eton website, there is a link so you can donate. It costs £40k per year to send kids there, I think we need to chip in as best we can................

How on earth are these types of places getting tax free treatment? Needs stopping asap.

The only charity I donate to is BlueBell Wood

As for animal charities...I wouldn't waste spit in their collecting tins.

They are just a moneymaking smokescreen. Despise them with a passion

I donate to my favourite charities ( mental health and homeless groups), with my time. I think there is no greater gift than to help someone who needs it than by rolling your sleeves up and getting on with it. Anybody can put money in a box or mail off a cheque.

I must confess that one of these issues (schizophrenia) affect a family member, so that is a strong motivator, of course, but not my sole reason.

Macmillan via (the great) John Burkill. If I don't bump into him in a while it's Bluebell Wood.

I fundraise for Bluebell, Mind and the Cavell’s Nurse’s trust. Also support several other charities that tend to fly below the radar.

I assume you can provide evidence to support this claim that all animal charities are just a moneymaking smokescreen ?

Lots of Charities have gone the way of most things these days and been taken over by the big corporations as money making entities for the bosses.

Give to the little independent ones if you can find them.

Some of the big ones do great work - I found aged UK and the Alzheimer's society very good and very helpful. RSBP does good work, but my local hospice gets most of my efforts.
