Is Comic Relief racist?

Even if all that was true, then David Lammy could have raised the subject after Comic Relief, not just before it.

By doing it it when he did he risked a reduction in giving.

If he had waited until now he could have made positive suggestions as to how best to act in future, without impacting on what was being done this year.

True.

The whole thing works on the basis that it is entertainment mixed with giving.

Perhaps he will plan an evening of documentaries, showing colonial and imperial oppression carried out by generations past. He'll be able to watch the millions of pounds flow in, smashing all records, and he'll be carried aloft for his efforts (although that would be making him a white savior, so he'd decline and remain behind the scenes)

So if it was the message then perhaps people weren't so predisposed to donating to Comic Relief anyway.

Perhaps, although "people" were donating over 10% more before his intervention.

I think people generally have become disenchanted with big charity events such as this, and the amount of money that goes in admin and paying the CEO and people at the top etc.

And a  lot of the problems should be tackled at government level, and not have to depend on charity.

The idea of multi-millionaire's offering to  'donate time', and squandering the opportunity to make a major difference collectively to the lives they ask us ordinary people to better by mean of a small cash donation is immoral.
