Millers Dale railway viaduct

Recommended Posts

Cycled up the Monsal Trail from Bakewell on Wed afternoon.

Surprised to see that contractors are painting one of the bridges.

Surprised because it is doubtful the bridge will ever be used again for rail traffic

Is the intention to open it for public useage, or because of the planned uplift of the old station building, a matter of smartening the place up.

Any one with knowledge ?

Googling Millers Dale Viaduct, there is information as to who is carrying out the work, but not the reason for doing so.

Out of curiosity, anyone yet know the reason for the refurb of the viaduct ?

Work started August 2019 on behalf of Historic rail estates of York and was carried out by Amco, they are replacing old and rusty parts and sand blasting it and re painting it.

Hi Cycleracer and thanks for your reply

Walked over the viaduct this afternoon. Puzzled as to why they have only painted the top section.

The metalwork / girders underneath where they have painted are in very poor condition !
