Bus protest

Recommended Posts

So while the rest of us are trying to get to work to earn a living. As the tree protests have stopped a man with too much time on his hands is stopping people from getting to work. I know that air pollution is a problem but this wont solve it will it. It will just annoy people.  https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/police-called-to-protest-over-filthy-bus-in-sheffield-as-man-blocks-vehicle-s-path-1-9618293

Clown of the highest order. Sorry to say.

Really? What are you on about?  The bus was chugging like a clown car. He did the right thing.  We need more people  like this to take a stand. Several 4x4s and lorries are equally bad

I assume this horror story ended up with casualties due to the ingestion of toxic fumes. Wonder the Star missed it.

Just because there was nobody on the bus when he stopped it, doesn't mean that it wasn't active on a route....so lots of people could have been late for work, missed appointments etc etc...

How do these vehicles pass their test if they are smoking so badly?

Typically South Yorkshire Police choosing to ignore a crime despite being present whilst said crime was in progress.

Quote

“The driver called his bosses who called the police, but when police arrived they asked to company to make sure it carries out proper checks on the bus, before leaving. They obviously didn’t see it as a criminal matter requiring their attention,” said Mr Rust.

So they turned up, decided no crime was taking place, told the company to check the vehicle any way and left.

Let's see what the law says:

Quote

Highways Act 1980

Sec. 137 Penalty for wilful obstruction.

(1)If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding [F1level 3 on the standard scale].

Looks like a criminal matter to me. Mr Rust had no lawful authority to prevent the vehicle from leaving. He had no evidence of his claims

No the right thing to do would have been to contact the company so the vehicle could have been inspected, not break the law and obstruct the highway

Idiotic.

could have advised the bus company to look at it instead of stopping the service.
